Online Consumer Behavior

1. Netflix could be considered a Longtail because it features a lot of the top feature films that you can get at any store at the same time they offer a long list of independent films and homemade films which seems to go on and on like a Longtail. It also has many different genre's with dozens' of films in each category which relates to tailoring personal tastes. And the relatively cheap cost of getting a film on Netflix is another trait associated with Longtails.

2. I would consider myself a "sportster" because most of my online activity involves looking at sports related things, whether its ESPN, NFL Network, sites of that nature I'm constantly looking at news in the Sports World. That also pertains to shopping, I'm always looking at sports paraphernalia constantly browsing sites with that sort of stuff. Dont' spend a much time browsing other sites, or spend it shopping online. Not and end to end commerce, nor devoted to good deals. But sometimes I feel like I linger into the surfer category because sometimes I like to browse random sites via stumbleupon.com and find interesting things on the web.

  1. I agree that Netflix could be considered a part of the Long Tail Theory. There is an entire section of independent films on there. It is a way that people can find obscure movies that they are searching for. I also think that Netflix is relatively cheap for all the films that are made available to the customer. I would consider myself a simplifier. I like things to work quickly and easily when I'm using the internet. However, I am also really into sports. I can see how being a sportster would relate to being a surfer. A lot of sports fans surf the web to find out new information about their favorite sports teams or their favorite athletes.

  2. I can see why Netflix is a good illustration of the Long Tail theory. Independent films are an excellent example of appealing to a niche market. I know that for me, I prefer BBC (British) tv shows rather than a lot of American ones, and that wouldn't be possible without Netflix appealing to more than just the basic person, because I definitely don't fit into that category. Netflix has also began to create it's own shows, further emphasizing the niche market and it will only continue to grow.

  3. I also said that Netflix was a good example of this theory. It has a wide variety of movies that can be personalized to the consumer. It is such a reasonable price that most people can afford it. That is neat that you are into sports and learning all about them on the Internet. You have a passion for sports and its great that the Internet offers such a variety of ways to see them.

  4. I agree that Netflix is a Long Tail. It provides movies based on your preferences and not what is the most popular movies out their. Sometimes it puts out new releases but most of the time it gives you older films that are less popular.

  6. Netflix is absolutely long tail. It caters to a very specific market by suggested and recommending movies from its extensive selection, yet everyone kind find something they like in there and have the service.
